The unbridled growth of the WordPress English garden
It turns out that pruning is almost as important as planting
At Digit, a significant part of our work focuses on redesigning and redeveloping WordPress websites for our clients. We are often called after an organization has had their current site for several years, so they want us to refresh its look, features, and content with more up-to-date equivalents.
That makes much sense, but we often think that it would have been better for our clients to bring us in earlier instead of waiting until the full redesign milestone comes around.
Why?

The power of WordPress
WordPress is the most popular platform for non-technical people to publish their thoughts, products, and services on the web. Figures vary a bit, but as a content management system (CMS) it almost has no competition with well over 60% of market share (and about half of all websites worldwide…a third of which are top-traffic sites). It has a giant ecosystem of themes and plugins, and its user interface is relatively simple.
Perhaps that’s why some organizations have the perception that building a WordPress site is a one-and-done deal but there is more to it than meets the eye.
What to do
By the time we start working with these kinds of unkempt sites, it’s often better to do demolition and start from scratch when, in fact, the cost in time and money should have been lower had the client kept the original developer onboard or hired a different one to work on ongoing maintenance.
At Digit, we not only build websites, but also nurture them over time with services like:
